Kohli Will Have To Give Up His Ego, He Has A Rough Time: Kapil Dev

Virat Kohli’s quitting as India’s Test skipper is almost certain to remain a big subject of debate in the cricket world for a while. Kohli, 33, turned to social media to reveal his crucial move. It should be mentioned that Kohli is no longer India’s white-ball skipper. As a result, the legendary cricketer’s penultimate leading responsibility in national colors was indeed the Cape Town Test versus South Africa.

In 2015, Kohli, who took over India’s Test captaincy from MS Dhoni, has had an impressive streak. The right-handed hitter concludes as the country’s most accomplished skipper in the whites, having guided the team to 40 victories in 68 contests. Meanwhile, his reputation has gone down in recent years, as many people believe the pressures of leading are pulling him down.

We cannot lose Virat, the batsman…no way: Kapil Dev

Former Indian Legend Kapil Dev also has a similar opinion. “I welcome Virat’s decision to quit the Test captaincy. He was going through a rough time ever since he gave up the T20 captaincy. He has looked tense in recent times, appeared to be under a lot of pressure. So giving up the captaincy was an option in order to play freely. He opted for that,” Kapil told

“He is a mature man. I am sure he must have thought hard before taking this important decision. Maybe, he wasn’t enjoying the captaincy. We have to support him and wish him luck,” he added.

“Even Sunil Gavaskar played under me. I played under K Srikkanth and Mohammed Azharuddin. I had no ego. Virat will have to give up his ego and play under a young cricketer. This will help him and Indian cricket. Virat should guide the new captain, new players. We cannot lose Virat, the batsman…no way,” concluded Kapil.

Furthermore, Kohli is expected to participate in the forthcoming 3-match ODI series versus South Africa, where he will be led by KL Rahul. The series begins on January 19.
