Rory Burns, an English cricketer, who plays for Surrey, made his international debut for the England cricket team in 2018. England is already struggling with illness and injuries now. During the tour of South Africa, it has suffered from another blow in the form of Rory Burns.
Burns has been ruled out for the rest of the Test series. He was the top scorer of England in the first Test. He injured his left ankle while playing a football match before the practice session on Thursday, and now scans have shown that his left ankle sustained ligament damage.
Rory Burns Suffers From Ligament Damage
“England opening batsman Rory Burns has sustained ligament damage to his left ankle,”. England and Wales Cricket Board said.
“He has been ruled out of the remainder of the South Africa Test series and will return home for further assessment and treatment at the earliest convenience,” it added.
England will, therefore, miss the services of the left-handed opener — who scored 84 runs in the Centurion Test, in which England lost by 107 runs.
Archer has a right elbow injury yet again that led to him skipping two training days ahead of the second Test as England does not want to gamble by straining him further. This means the pacer is also unlikely to play in the Test.
Mark Wood, the pacer, has yet to return to full fitness from his bout of sickness that affected most of the squad. Meanwhile, opener Dom Sibley is also expected to be fit after his illness.
In the second match at Newlands, Cape Town on Friday, England, 0-1 down in the four-Test series, will face the Proteas.
