Know Why Murali Vijay Was Fined?

When Tamil Nadu was playing against Karnataka in Dindigul in a Ranji Trophy match, the former Indian opener Murali Vijay was fined 10% of his match fee for protesting against the on-field umpire’s decision.

The incident took place during the 70th over of the Karnataka innings when ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and other Tamil Nadu vociferously protested against Pavan Deshpande before the on-field umpire Nitin Pandit turned it down.

Disappointed with the call, almost all Tamil Nadu fielders and Ashwin crowded the pitch until Umpire Nitin walked to talk to the Indian champion spinner.

Meanwhile, Anil Dandekar, the umpire standing on the square leg, tried to calm an agitated Vijay by holding his hand.

Murali Vijay charged ten percent of his match fee

After the game, the management of the Tamil Nadu team reported that the former Indian opener was fined ten percent of his match fee. This decision on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy fixture against Karnataka, which went against Tamil Nadu, left many TN players like N Jagadeesh, Ravichandran Ashwin, Murali Vijay aggrieved and disappointed. Deshpande, against whom the appeal was turned down, was eventually dismissed by Ravi Ashwin for 65 after N Jagadeesan took his catch.

Karnataka batted first and following half-centuries from Devdutt Padiakkal (78 off 182 balls), who continued his great run-of-form starting with the white-ball tournaments, a 78-ball 43 from Mayank Agarwal, and an excellent half-century from Pavan Deshpande (65 off 142 balls), it finished the day at 6-259 in 94 overs.

Manimaran Siddarth (13-4-33-2) was the pick of the bowlers for Tamil Nadu as he took critical wickets of Mayank Agarwal, who made 43, and wicketkeeper-batsman Sharath BR who scored 10 off 35 balls.

Former Indian Cricketer Murali Vijay was known more for his Test cricketing career, though he also played in ODI and IPL matches. He began his cricketing career at the age of 17, playing club cricket in Chennai representing Alwarpet in 2003. After that, he was selected in the Tamil Nadu Under-22 squad for the 2004-05 CK Naidu Trophy. He continued his cricketing journey by playing for different teams and is still playing.
