At the Adelaide Oval, Australia’s David Warner slammed his maiden T20I century in front of the side’s home crowd. In the first T20I of a three-match series, the aggressive opener took his team to a mammoth total of a 233/2 against Sri Lanka. He was ably assisted by Glenn Maxwell and skipper Aaron Finch.
Early this year in England in the Ashes, Warner had a forgettable outing, with just 95 runs from 10 innings.
To give himself the perfect birthday gift, he staged a strong comeback. The batsman, who turned 33 on Sunday, blazed off to an unbeaten 56-ball century, studded with four sixes and 10 boundaries. On the other hand, Finch, before losing his wicket to chinaman Lakshan Sandakan, made 64 off 36 balls. The next batsman, Maxwell was in a similar mood, dispatching the ball to all corners of the park. He made a quickfire of 62 off 28 balls.
To add to the fact that the Lankans had a bad day on the field, bowler Kasun Rajitha had a very forgettable outing. By recording the most expensive bowling figures in T20I history, the medium-pacer returned with figures of 4-0-75-0. The over in which he got hammered for 25 runs (2, 6, 1, 6, 6, 4) was his most expensive over.
