Kane Williamson (born on 8 August 1990 in Tauranga, New Zealand) is a right-hand New Zealand batter. Often considered the best Test batter in the world, Kane is the captain of New Zealand in all three formats of the game. He led his team to the finals of ICC World Cup 2015 and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Kane led his team in winning the inaugural ICC World Test Championship in 2021. Kane has played the English County Cricket as well in his career. Kane was retained as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the TATA IPL 2022.

Kane Williamson started off playing cricket at the age of 8 years. His father had also played Club Cricket for New Zealand in his early days. He helped his son in achieving his son’s dream. By the age of 14 years, Kane started playing for senior teams on the district level. He went to Tauranga College from 2004 to 2008 and scored magnificently during his college days. Williamson made his first-class debut at the age of 16 years. In 2007, at the age of 17, he made his debut for Northern District. For his whole domestic career life, Williamson played for Northern District.

In 2008, Kane got selected in the Under-19 New Zealand team and was appointed as the captain for ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup for his team. He led his team from the front and helped them to reach in the semi-finals. However, they lost the semi-final to India.

In 2014, he smashed his maiden T20 century for Northern District. He smashed 101 runs off just 49 balls and helped his team to get a comfortable win in the match.

At the age of 19 years, Kane Williamson made his international debut for New Zealand in an ODI against India. His debut didn’t go well for him, he got out without scoring any run in his 1st match.

In October 2010, Kane scored his maiden ODI century in match against Bangladesh and became the youngest player to score a century for New Zealand. The tour didn’t go well for New Zealand but Kane emerged as the leading run scorer for his team.

In November 2010, Kane made his test debut against India. He smashed a century on his debut. He scored 131 runs in that innings.

In 2014 against West Indies, Kane smashed 161 runs and helped his team in winning the test series in West Indies. He emerged as the leading run scorer in the tournament scoring 413 runs. In the same year, he was also reported for his bowling action. However, he was cleared by ICC in the same month.

Williamson was made captain of T20 and ODI series against Pakistan in 2014 as full-time captain Brendon McCullum was rested for the series.

In 2015, Williamson scored his maiden double century in tests against Sri Lanka. In the first 2 months of 2015, Kane scored over 700 runs and was also included in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

In 2015, Kane scored 1172 runs in Tests and 2692 runs in all the formats, most by any player during a calendar year.

In ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Williamson emerged as the leading run scorer for his team. He smashed 578 runs in 10 matches and was awarded with Player of the tournament award. ICC also made him captain of Team of the tournament.

In 2021, Kane Williamson led New Zealand to win the inaugural ICC World Test Championship title. In the same year, he led his team to the finals of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and ended up as the leading run scorer for his team.

2018 was the breakthrough season for him. He was made captain of the team in absence of David Warner and led his team to the finals. He ended up scoring 735 runs in 17 matches most by any player in the season.

In 2021, Kane took over captaincy from David Warner during the season. However, SRH finished the season at the bottom of the table.

Kane was retained as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the TATA IPL 2022.
