Jonny Bairstow in full, Jonathan Marc Bairstow (born on 26 September 1989 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England) is a right-hand wicket-keeper batter for England. Jonny Bairstow has been a part of the English side for more than a decade in all three formats of cricket. He was a member of the English squad that won the ICC World Cup in 2019. Apart from cricket, Jonny Bairstow is also a good football and rugby player. In the Indian Premier League, Jonny Bairstow was bought by Punjab Kings in the mega auction of TATA IPL 2022 for a whopping amount of 6.75 crores.

Jonny Bairstow started playing cricket at a young age of 10 years. His father David Bairstow was a former English Wicketkeeper batter who helped his son in pursuing cricket as career. In his early days, Bairstow was interested in sports such as cricket, rugby and football. But by the time his interest grew more in cricket. He attended St. Peter School in Yorkshire. In his schooling days, he grew up as an amazing player. In 2007, he was awarded with Young Wisden Schools Cricket of the year. In the complete season, Bairstow smashed 654 runs. He was known as run machine in his schooling days.

Bairstow started off his domestic career playing for Yorkshire County Club in 2008. In his first 6 matches for the club, Jonny Bairstow smashed 308 runs. After performing magnificently in club matches, he was called in the main
squad of Yorkshire for the finals against Sussex. However, he didn’t get a chance to play the match.
In 2009, Jonny Bairstow was included In the Yorkshire squad from the beginning of the season. Bairstow made his debut against Somerset and scored 28 runs in the first innings and 82 runs in the second innings on his debut. He also kept the gloves in the second innings of the match.
By the next year i.e. in 2010, Jonny Bairstow became the constant member of the Yorkshire squad. In 2020, Bairstow played 16 matches for the club and smashed 918 runs including 8 half centuries.
In 2011, he was appointed as the regular wicketkeeper for the club. In a match against Nottinghamshire, Jonny Bairstow smashed a double century. He was the only batter from his team to score more than 1000 runs in the season.

After performing well in the domestic circuit, Jonny Bairstow was included in the ODI squad of England against Ireland in 2011. However, he didn’t get a chance to appear in playing 11.

In a series against Sri Lanka in 2016, Bairstow scored 140 runs in the 1st match of the series and was named Man of the Match. In the third match of the series, Jonny Bairstow smashed 167 runs and helped England in winning the series. He was awarded with Player of the Series Award.
In 2018, Jonny Bairstow smashed three centuries consecutively and became first English batter to achieve this record.
