Jhye Richardson’s Five-Wicket Haul Sets 2-0 Series Lead For Australia

England’s defeat in the 2nd Ashes Test was almost certain, they did not go down without the need for a battle. Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, and Chris Woakes, all known for their hard firepower, went against form and tried to surprise the Aussies with a tie. The Australian bowlers, on the other hand, were too big to handle, notably Jhye Richardson, who took his first five-wicket haul in a Test match. As a consequence, the Australians won by 275 runs. Here are AUS vs ENG Ashes 2nd Test 2021 Day 5 Match Highlights.

In terms of how the complete day unfolded, England began the day with an overnight total of 82/4, requiring 375 more to clinch. The Australians, on the other side, just required 6 wickets to go 2-0 lead in the contest. The Three Lions started badly as Ollie Pope was out in the 2nd over of the day. Having half of the players back in the room, Australia’s victory appeared to be a question of time.

The remainder of England’s batsmen, on the other hand, resolved not to go under without a struggle. Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes shown tremendous tenacity, defending deliveries. When Stokes was out after facing 77 balls for 12 runs, Buttler remained focused and proceeded to challenge the Australian bowlers.

Interestingly, the delivery was swinging fair for off-spinner Nathan Lyon on the 5th day of the Test. As a result, England performed a great job of advancing the match to the 3rd session. However, with Stokes’ exit, Buttler found a significant companion in Woakes. The two built a strong combination and advanced the match to the 2nd session.

Woakes’ tenacity drained out in the 2nd session, as the clock shifted back in Australia’s advantage. Buttler, on the other hand, was seemed tough.  The Three Lions survived one more session due to the efforts of tail-enders Ollie Robinson and Stuart Broad. The Australian camp would have been nervous because they needed two wickets in the last session.

Buttler was removed in possibly the most awful scenario, just as the match appeared to be heating up. To deal with Richardson’s quick way, he moved backward and destructed the stumps with his foot. He was eventually removed, and the Aussies didn’t have to work very much about the final wicket anymore. As a consequence, Australia won their 9th Pink-Ball Test in a succession and took a 2-0 edge in the 5-match series.
