The first test match between India and England would have been great without rains being the most unwanted guest in the UK. India has been consistently good with the bowl where England completely struggled to play against pace bowling of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur. Here is Zaheer Khan About Jasprit Bumrah.
Zaheer Khan About Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah was at his best as he picked up 9 wickets in the first test match in Nottingham. Bumrah was heavily criticized for not picking up wickets in WTC finals and many pundits were considering dropping Bumrah for a while.
It was later decided as Joe Root being the player of the match after scoring 64 and 108 runs in 2 respective innings. Root’s 108 runs in the second innings were the differential and it helped England to at least draw the match. However, there are different opinions between people that Jasprit Bunrah should have won the man of the match and Zaheer Khan is one of them.
Zaheer Khan feels that Jasprit Bumrah should have won the man of the match after his terrific bowling performance.
“I had to pick only one player of the match, then definitely I would go with Bumrah. The reason is clear for that. He set the tone of the Test match from the first over. Yes, Joe Root is a very big player, he played a brilliant knock and kept England in the game. But even then, it wasn’t easy to win/draw for them. For that reason, Bumrah was the match-winner”. Zaheer Khan added
He later picked up 4 wickets in the second innings with the all-important wicket of Joe Root since he was looking in great touch. On top of that, he also scored quickfire 28 runs off 34 balls.
“He started well, picked wickets throughout. In this match, India’s lower-order did well and Bumrah performed better with the bat as well compared to his England counterparts. He even didn’t let England tail hang around bowling some sensational swinging yorkers. So I feel Bumrah should’ve been the player of the match,” Zaheer Khan said.
