According to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) would be pressured to promote women’s cricket. The reintroduction of the Taliban government in Afghanistan has raised the potential of women being prohibited from participating in cricket or any other outdoor activity. Furthermore, Afghanistan is among the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) 12 full-fledged members, implying that its men can play Test cricket. Therefore, all Test-playing nations must have a women’s squad. Because the Taliban authorities do not favor the same, ACB has found itself in steam on several occasions. In addition, the national team’s historic Test match versus Australia, which was slated to begin on November 27, was also delayed for about the same purpose.

Raja remains focused on Afghanistan’s cricket operations as a member of an International Cricket Council (ICC) working committee examining the condition of the sport in the country. When asked about the prospects of women’s cricket in Afghanistan, Raja stated that the ACB will need time but that they will ultimately be forced to promote women’s cricket.
“Like everybody else, we are giving them time. They are in a difficult situation. It’s a tough one for Afghanistan to answer right now. Pressure will be put on Afghanistan. I’m sure they will have to decide in the next six months how they deal with the ICC,” Raja.
Importantly, the BBC announced in September this year that Afghanistan’s women’s squad was hiding in Kabul because Taliban members were searching for them. Moreover, Raja stated that the ICC can only rely upon the ACB’s stance for the time being.
“Things are still in a state of flux in Afghanistan. Wait and watch is the policy of the world and that is the policy of the ICC. It was decided that Afghanistan cricket talent shouldn’t be hurt at all because they have some fabulous players, so all of their funding will continue. Albeit there will be more eyes watching how they spend that money,” said Raja.
