It’s Been The Best Form I’ve Had Coming Into BBL: Josh Philippe

Following a brilliant half-century in his team’s 152-run Big Bash success, Sydney Sixers opener Josh Philippe said that he would like to ultimately make his way back towards Australian colors. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed 83 off 47 balls versus the Melbourne Stars, including one 6 that flew on the top of the SCG members pavilion.

The Sixers easily beaten 4-213 by dismissing the Stars out for 61, the 3rd poor total in BBL history. Philippe received an international call-up in February of this year for T20 matchups versus New Zealand, but he chose not to make use of the opportunity.

Josh Philippe scored 138 runs from 10 innings, including performances against the West Indies & Bangladesh eventually in the year. He only surpassed 13 on two times and did not participate in Australia’s winning T20 World Cup campaign.

We’re just really clear on our game plan: Philippe

“It was great to have a taste,” Philippe said. “It didn’t quite go to plan but it’s certainly where I want to try and get back to. Hopefully I can keep doing well and keep putting my name forward”.

As a kid I always wanted to play for Australia and it’s still no different. “I’ve felt it’s been the best form I’ve had coming into a BBL [tournament]. It’s nice to get a few runs to start.

The Sixers are hoping for their 3rd BBL victory in succession and will resume their challenge against the Hobart Hurricanes on Wednesday, in Launceston.

We certainly gel very well,” Philippe said. “We know exactly how we want to play the game and we’re just really clear on our game plan. I think [roster stability] does make a big difference.”

The Sixers are still to clarify if Dan Christian, as well as Sean Abbott, would head to Tasmania with the squad on Wednesday morning. Christian’s partner is pregnant and due any day now, whereas Abbott arrived from Brisbane to be together with his spouse, who is ready to give birth to their 1st child in the days ahead.
