After getting collapsed for a record low of 36 runs in the second innings of the first Test in Adelaide, India staged an unbelievable turnaround to clinch the four-match series 2-1 for certainly one of their best wins of all time against Australia Down Under.
Kane Williamson Praises India’s Efforts
The cricketing world took the word of India’s achievement and New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson was no exception. New Zealand’s captain Kane Williamson hailed India’s “truly remarkable” triumph in Australia, coming within the backdrop of a disastrous Test series opener and accidents to innumerable players.
“Anytime you play Australia it’s incredibly tough and to play in their backyard is an added challenge. For India to go there and perform the way they did, in particular with so many injuries and players out. It was truly a remarkable victory,” Williamson summarized Sports Today.
“You throw in the Test Championship context that’s added but I think just the challenge they faced and the way they stood up, I think their bowling unit collectively had 7 or 8 Tests between them going into the last game and at the Gabba as well,” he added.
India have been without their main batsman Virat Kohli, who was on paternity leave, for the final three Tests against Australia. Besides, the staff started missing out on lots of their key players to injuries as the series progressed. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara were the only two players who featured in all four Test games against Australia.
Williamson feels that the Indian staff should have “got a huge buzz out of” the memorable win within the series-deciding fourth Test at Brisbane, that had been Australia’s fortress for the final 32 years.
“No doubt, India would have been completely thrilled, the supporters watching that match I’m certain the staff obtained an enormous buzz out of that as properly. “Also, after such a long time away, after the IPL they went straight to Australia, so no doubt they must be enjoying their time with family,” Williamson added.
New Zealand have already reached in WTC finals. England tour of India will decide who’ll play against New Zealand. India will play their 1st Test against England on 5th February in Chennai.
