Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) always has been a team in the Indian Premier League who promises a lot but failed to deliver as per the expectations. In the last two seasons, they started well but as the group stages were going to end, their performance level tail off and they had to end outside of the top-4.
Stumpsandbails analyzed both KXIP and RCB and found that somehow, KXIP is related to old RCB. Here is why…
Over-Reliance On Certain Players:
In the old RCB batting line up, there was overdependence on Virat Kohli and AB de Villers. Once they are dismissed, the complete batting unit of RCB collapsed just like a pack of cards. Here in KXIP, it seems a lot of dependency on KL Rahul and Chris Gayle. But this time it shouldn’t be like the old RCB, Gayle was around dreadful Batting line up but not a single trophy.
Lack Of Strong Support:
RCB missed an impactful player on the team. They required someone like Bravo in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) or Russell in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). We can’t expect two players to bat from the starting ball to the last ball. In the KXIP unit, although there are leading performers like Nicholas Pooran and Mayank Agarwal, there is no strong support cast in the team, which suggests that they might struggle again in the 2020 IPL just like previous editions.
No Constant Performance:
Although in previous editions, RCB had enormous big players like Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, etc. they had rarely managed to perform consistently well. In the present KXIP, Mandeep Singh, Krishnappa Gowtham, Karun Nair, Deepak Hooda will have to do more consistently to ensure excessive pressure isn’t upon the overseas players.
Dismal Bowling Line-Up:
No doubt that RCB had a superb batting line up but not that much impactful bowling unit. In the 2020 IPL KXIP squad, Mohammad Shami is a bowling expert and also got some success in the 2019 IPL but there will too much pressure on him as well as on Sheldon Cotrell, who is debuting in IPL in this season.
