IPL: 5 Players Who May Become The Costliest Players If They Leave Their Current Franchise

IPL 2022 will feature a mega auction and in all likelihood the addition of two new teams. The franchises will have their task cut out to ensure they retain their best core of players. IPL’s policy of player retention makes things even more exciting. Teams can’t retain more than 3 Indian and 2 overseas players. No matter how hard they try they will have to let go of some great talent from their squad during the IPL 2022 mega auctions. Stay with us to now about Costliest Player In IPL 2022 Auction

StumpsandBails looks at 5 Costliest Player In IPL 2022 Auction who may emerge as the costliest picks in the auctions if they leave their current franchise:

#5 Jason Holder

Jason Holder played a key role in SRH’s revival last season. He is an underrated and under-utilised IPL player. Holder has the ability to change the game with both bat and the ball. He brings leadership qualities to the table. Holder is pretty likely to receive the boot from SRH as they have already have Kane Williamson and Rashid Khan as their frontline overseas players. IPL 2022 might just prove to be Holder’s year.

#4 Chris Morris

Chris Morris holds the record for being the most expensive player to have ever been picked in the auctions. He went for a whopping INR 16.25 crores last year when RR went all-out for him. Morris did almost everything that was asked of him in IPL 2021. He finished a close game and was mighty effective with the ball. But in all likelihood, RR is certain to release Morris as they will look to persist with Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer.

#3 Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav took to MI as fish takes to water. He is their highest run-scorer since 2018. Yadav received an India call-up thanks to his exploits for MI. But the mega auctions will surely put MI into a spot. They will certainly retain Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah as their Indian players. This will leave out Yadav open in the auctions. He will go for big money and MI might have to think twice before using the RTM on Yadav.

#2 Ben Stokes

RR might be forced to let go of Ben Stokes as they are likely to retain Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer. Stokes was the most expensive player in two consecutive auctions (2017 and 2018). He will be a big-ticket player in 2022 mega auctions as well. A great striker, an effective bowler, and a brilliant fielder, Stokes is a complete package. He may again emerge as the most expensive player in the auctions next year.

#1 David Warner

David Warner is a force of nature. He led SRH to playoffs in 2015, 2017, and 2020. Warner singlehandedly won them the title in 2016 scoring 848 runs. He is a 3-time orange cap winner. Warner apart from AB de Villiers is the only batsman to score more than 5000 runs at an average in excess of 40 and a strike rate of more than 150. His relationship with the SRH management soured in IPL 2021. It looks highly unlikely that SRH will retain Warner. Teams will pounce on David Warner in the auctions. Warner has the ability to make history in the mega auction breaching even the INR 20 crores mark.
