The winner of the orange cap was almost a given halfway into the season. There were other contenders though who jostled hard to find a spot in the top ten. The season had its fair share of surprises. But one common thread among the top ten batters was that all had crossed the 450-runs mark.
We look at the top ten run-scorers of IPL 2022:
#10 Deepak Hooda (451)
He had a breakthrough season this year. Deepak Hooda was a rock for LSG batting at numbers 3 and 4. He compiled 451 runs at 32.21 while striking at 136.66.
#9 Sanju Samson (458)
He had a season to remember this year. Sanju Samson smashed 458 runs at an average of 28.63. It was his strike rate of 146.79 that caught the eyes of many cricketing experts.
#8 Shikhar Dhawan (460)
He dropped four spots in the eventual list as his team failed to qualify for the playoffs. Shikhar Dhawan finished with 460 runs this season at an average of 38.33. But his strike rate of 122.66 was a disappointment.
#7 Faf du Plessis (468)
He dropped a couple of spots this week. Faf du Plessis finished at number 7 in the list of top run-getters this season. He accumulated 468 runs at an average of 31.20 striking at 127.52.
#6 David Miller (481)
He found a new lease of life at the Gujarat Titans. David Miller had his best-ever IPL season this year. He smashed 481 runs at an average of 68.71 (best on the list). His runs came at a strike rate of 142.72.
#5 Shubman Gill (483)
He was the one who hit the winning runs for GT. Shubman Gill finished with 483 runs at an average of 34.50. Gill’s runs came at a strike rate of 132.32.
#4 Hardik Pandya (487)
He has been an inspirational leader for Gujarat. Hardik Pandya led from the front. He was GT’s highest run-getter this season. Pandya scored 487 runs at an average of 44.27 striking at 131.26.
#3 Quinton De Kock (502)
His knock of 140 helped him stake a place in the top ten run-getters list. Quinton De Kock finished with a whopping 508 runs this season. He averaged 36.29 while his strike rate of 148.97 is the best on this list.
#2 KL Rahul (616)
He had another 600+ runs season this year. KL Rahul finished with a tally of 616 runs at an average of 51.33. His strike rate of 135.38 was fairly decent. But LSG would have wanted more from him on crucial occasions.
#1 Jos Buttler (863)
He had a tournament-defining season this year. Jos Buttler broke David Warner’s record tally of 848 runs. He is now second on the list for scoring the most runs in a single season. Buttler finished with a record 863 runs comprising four centuries. He also became the first player to cross 200+ (234) runs in the playoffs. It will take some effort for someone to surpass Buttler’s feat.
