IPL 2021: Australian Players Might Head Home From Maldives

The Australian cricket players IPL 2021, media staff, and coaches who are currently in the Maldives, after the suspension of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League – may head back home by Sunday.

IPL 2021 was postponed on May 4th, 2021 due to a rising number of Covid cases, and the entire bunch of Australian players were moved to the Maldives due to a travel ban from India.

Both Cricket Australia and BCCI are waiting for the Australian government to allow its citizens back to their country who have banned till May 15th as they had traveled to India recently.

As per the reports, the 38 members of the Australian Containment may take the charter plain on 16th May and will travel to Sydney through Malaysia. After reaching Sydney will have to under a go a strict 14-day quarantine again.

Cricket Australia Board member Mr. Hockley said: “Our hearts go out to everyone in India. Clearly, I mean, I think the IPL, you know, put so much work, so much effort into putting on the tournament. They obviously did that on the best available information at the time and they’ve come to the decision over the last 24 hours that it’s in everyone’s — well, in the interests of the health and safety of everyone to suspend the tournament indefinitely.”

He even Added – ” IPL management has done a fantastic job so far in keeping our players safe and taking good care of them at the Maldives – I thank them for this sweet gesture”.
