The IPL mini-auction for the 14th edition (IPL 2021) is fast approaching. The auction is all set to take place in Chennai. No sooner than the date was announced there has been a buzz about which players will be bought and who will be acquired again.
We at StumpsandBails look at 5 players whom the franchise might acquire again albeit for a lower price in the auction.
#5 Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell was undoubtedly one of the biggest signings of the IPL last year. He was bought by Kings XI Punjab for a whopping 10.75 crores. But Maxwell had a hugely disappointing season. He failed to score a single six throughout the tournament. But it felt as if the KXIP management has faith in Maxwell’s ability. There are high chances of them buying back Maxwell in the auction. The catch being if he is available for a much lower price.

#4 Mujeeb Ur Rahman
The Afghanistan mystery spinner, Mujeeb Ur Rahman had quite an indifferent IPL in 2020. He was acquired for INR 4 crores in IPL 2018. There is a general feeling that the spinner might go for a lesser figure come the IPL auctions in 2021. This may well serve the purpose of the KXIP franchise as they will get to retain a talented spinner like him at a much lesser price.
#3 Nathan Coulter-Nile
Nathan Coulter-Nile is a hard-hitting lower-order all-rounder who is effective both with the bat and the ball. The Mumbai Indians franchise punted on him big time in IPL 2020 but Coulter-Nile had a disappointing season, to say the least. The fact that he was purchased for INR 8 crores makes his season look even more dampening. But there is a high possibility that MI might buy him back in the auction for a lesser price.
#2 Piyush Chawla
The veteran leg-spinner, Piyush Chawla was bought by the Chennai Super Kings for a whopping INR 6.75 crores. But Chawla had a pretty forgettable season in IPL 2020. The CSK franchise released Chawla ahead of the auctions but there is a strong buzz that they might buy him back for a very low price in the auctions.

#1 Chris Morris
The lanky South African all-rounder was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2020 for a whopping INR 10 crores. But Chris Morris to his credit had a fairly decent IPL for RCB last year. He was the pace spearhead who provided vital breakthroughs for them in the competition. Virat Kohli also lavished a lot of praise on Morris. Hence it came as a surprise when the franchise released him ahead of the auction. There is a possibility that they might look to buy back Morris again in the auctions for a much lower price.
