Dinesh Karthik Has Stepped Down As Captain Of The Kolkata Knight Riders Confirmed Franchise:
As captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Dinesh Karthik has stepped down, the franchise confirmed on Friday. With a view to concentrating on his batting and contributing more to the team’s cause, the wicketkeeper-batsman took the decision. Captain Eoin Morgan of England has succeeded him as captain of the two-time champions of the IPL.
Dinesh Karthik, for his success with the bat in the current season, has faced criticism from many quarters. The right-handed batsman has not contributed much with the bat in the tournament so far, barring the 29-ball 58 runs knock against Kings XI Punjab.
Venky Mysore, the franchise ‘s CEO, praised Dinesh Karthik for putting the interest of the team ahead of him and also stated that the decision surprised the franchise. Mysore also expressed his delight at the readiness of Morgan to lead the team.
We are lucky to have leaders like DK, who always put the team first. For someone like him to take a decision like this takes a lot of bravery. Though his decision shocked us, we are respectful of his wishes,’ Mysore said.
We are also lucky that the 2019 World Cup-winning captain, Eoin Morgan, who was the vice captain, is able to push the side forward. During this tournament, DK and Eoin have worked beautifully together and while Eoin takes over as captain, this is basically a position swap and we expect this transfer to work seamlessly, ” he added.
After the legendary Gautam Gambhir left the franchise, Dinesh Karthik was named KKR’s captain in 2018. He led the team to the playoffs in his maiden season before KKR crashed out in the group stage in 2019.
As for KKR’s success in the current season, they are currently in fourth position with four wins from the opening seven matches. On Friday, as they lock horns against defending champions Mumbai Indians, they will again be in action.
