The Team Delhi Capitals head coach, Ricky Ponting, has stated clearly what the priorities of his team are going to be at the upcoming IPL auction. “There will be going to be a lot of focus and attention on fast bowlers as well as overseas players in particular. Pat Cummins could go for big money, as well as Chris Woakes,” Ponting stated in the Delhi Capitals statement. “All-rounders are always interesting in my point of view. Players like Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Marsh, Jimmy Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme could go for big money.”
Delhi Capitals Coach Ricky Ponting’s Opinion On The IPL Auction :
The former Australian captain and present head coach of Delhi Capitals also said that he is excited to have R Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane in his side, and they will “bring tremendous experience with them.”
“They are those kinds of players who are certainly performing well on the Ferozshah, Kotla wicket, and of course, bring outstanding experience with them,” he further stated.
Delhi Capitals have 14 players and 11 slots are still available going into the auction. They have a huge amount of money of around INR 27.85 crore (US$ 3,939,760 approx.) to spend at the time of IPL auction.
“If we discuss the IPL auction you have to be very specific about what kind of players you what to have,” Ponting said. “For example, we already got three openers namely Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, so we do not need to search for another one. You just need to search the problem areas in your starting eleven, and essentially try to fill the gaps. We had so many discussions over the last few months, and have invested a lot of time and effort to make sure that we are well-prepared. You can do all the planning and strategy in the world, but at the auction table, it is always unpredictable happens.”
“The semi-final match against Chennai Super Kings was very upsetting of course as we lose the match,” Ponting said of the 2019 season. “But we had some great cricket, and even now, about 7-8 months after that tournament happened, I feel like there was the time when we used to be the best team in the competition” the coach of Delhi Capitals added.
