We look at 5 India Highest ODI Scores Against SL:

#5 373-6, Taunton – 1999

India had not defeated Sri Lanka up to 1999. They had suffered a humiliating loss in the 1996 World Cup semifinal as Lanka stunned India at Eden Gardens. It was supposed to be a rematch of the 1999 World Cup. Sri Lanka put India into bat after winning the toss under overcast conditions. They were immediately rewarded as India lost Sadagopan Ramesh in the first over itself.

Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid then went on to stitch a record partnership of 318 runs. It was the highest partnership ever for any wicket in ODIs at that time. India posted a huge score of 373-6. In response, Sri Lanka could muster just 216.

#4 375-5, Colombo – 2017

India had already won the 5-match series with an unassailable lead. They were keen to complete a whitewash on Lankan shores. Winning the toss in the fourth ODI, India had no hesitation in batting first. India lost Shikhar Dhawan early in the second over. But it was the only bright spot for the home side as India went on a rampage from thereon. Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma smashed centuries as India put up a score of 375-5. Sri Lanka was bundled out for 207 in reply.

#3 392-4, Mohali – 2017

India went one better in the same year this time at home. Sri Lanka looking to exploit the early morning moisture decided to field first at Mohali. Rohit Sharma was the stand-in captain for the series. He led from the front as India raced their way to a daunting total.

India’s top three was absolutely belligerent as Shikhar Dhawan (68) and Shreyas Iyer (88) notched up impressive fifties. But it was the Rohit Sharma show all the way as he scored a magnificent 208* off just 153 balls. He powered India to a total of 392-4. India restricted Sri Lanka to 251-8 defending the target.

#2 404-5, Kolkata – 2014

India was dominating the 5-match ODI series against the visiting Lankan side. The home team won the toss and decided to bat first. India lost two wickets in quick succession after a steady start. It was a familiar sight when Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli joined hands to forge a solid foundation. Kohli departed after scoring 66. It was at this juncture that Sharma went berserk. He brought up his second double hundred in the format.

Sharma broke the record for the highest ODI score during his epic knock. His 264 off 173 balls all but put Lanka out of the game. India crossed the 400-run mark (404-5) for the second time against Lanka. Lanka managed to score just 251 runs in response.

#1 414-7, Rajkot – 2009

Sri Lanka won the toss on a featherbed of a wicket at Rajkot. They surprisingly put India into bat. The decision didn’t prove to be wise as India sent the bowlers on a leather hunt. Virender Sehwag in his own imitable style plundered 102 balls 146. MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja all paid their parts to perfection.

India finished 414-7. It remains their second-highest ODI total of all time. The game though went till the last ball as the visitors came close to registering a famous win. India prevailed in a thriller restricting Lanka to 411-8.
