ICC incorporates Two Indian Women In Its Panel:
Vrinda Rathi and Janani Narayanan of India included in the International Panel of ICC Development Umpires on Wednesday (18-03-2020). Because of their inclusion, the number of women matches officials in several International Cricket Council Panels has increased up to 12.
This declaration has happened after the 100% Cricket launch, which is a 1-year campaign expected to build on the momentum of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020.
This campaign was launched before the final match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at MCG on International Women’s Day, which was watched by a record-breaking crowd of 86,174 people. It also desires to generate much enthusiasm around the game of Women before the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021, which is scheduled to be held in New Zealand.
ICC Senior Manager of Umpires and Referees, Adrian Griffith said that “ these are the perfect times for Women’s Cricket and it is very good that we have got more women officials at the International level. We will work more dedicatedly with the members of the boards to provide the female officials the accurate path required for their development.
Further, she added that “ I am pretty much sure that Vrinda, as well as Janani, are looking forward to their own time on the ICC panel. I wish them good luck and hope that not only execute their duty well but also go on to improve their skills with proper support as travel along their voyage.”
The 34 years Narayana has admired the England player late David Shepherd and former Indian umpire Srinivas Venkatraghavan, who has been umpiring since 2008 in domestic tournaments in India.
Janani Narayanan:
After getting this opportunity, Janani Narayanan said that “ it feels really great to know that with Vrinda, we have been initiated into the development panel of ICC. This provides me the opportunity to learn from my seniors and grow in the coming years. Since 90s cricket is my part of my daily life and I surely look forward to being connected with cricket at a great level.
Vrinda Rathi:
Vrinda Rathi is 31 years old and she is also a former starter player, who has scored tremendously in the international matches and also been umpiring since 2018 in domestic cricket of India. She got the inspiration for umpiring after watching Kathy Cross of New Zealand at the 2013 Women’s World Cup and realized that umpiring is a natural growth for her.
