India-South Africa ODI series called off Due To COVID19

Because of the Coronavirus pandemic, the BCCI has declared the called off the remaining two ODI matches of India and South Africa on 13th March (Friday). After the washed out of the 1st ODI match in Dharamsala, it was decided to play the remaining two games behind the closed door in Lucknow and Kolkata. But by seeing the rising stage of COVID19 pandemic and growing numbers of positive cases, the board has decided to be called off the two matches.

This decision follows several ongoing tournaments all over the world that have been stopped. The day before, the Indian Premier League (IPL) was postponed to 15th April instead of 29th March.

One of the BCCI media release approved by Jay Shah, the board secretary, had said that “ The BCCI is very much worried and concerned about its stakeholders and health of the public, and it is really essential to take the steps to ensure that, all the people associated with IPL along with fans have a safe & secure cricket experience”.

Also, he added that “The BCCI will work simultaneously with India Government and also with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and all other Central, as well as State Government, about this matter.”

As per the WHO report, the novel COVID-19 has affected moreover 118 countries so far. Nearly 1,20,000 people got affected by the virus and more than 4,300 deaths all over the world. In India, till now 82 people have affected by the virus.
