India Registers T20 Series Victory Against Sri Lanka

Virat Kohli, the captain of Team India, speaking after losing the toss that they need to do well after batting first. At the time of defending, the dismal record of India was the reason.

From the start of 2019 until this match, India, when it bowled second, had won just three and lost five matches.

However, on Friday the case was different as Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur and Navdeep Saini struck early. India recorded a convincing 78-run win over Sri Lanka to clinch the three T20I series 2-0. After being reduced to 31/4 when chasing a target of 202, Sri Lanka’s chase was effectively over at the powerplay.

The Downfall Of Sri Lanka

In the very beginning, Sri Lanka’s downfall had begun when left-hander Danushka Gunthilaka (1) tried to pull off a short delivery from Bumrah at the mid-on and the ball landed safely in Wahington Sundar’s hands. In the next over, his opening partner Avishka Fernando (9) was dismissed when trying to hit Thakur straight at Shreyas Iyer.

In the fourth over, Oshada Fernando was run out after a mix-up. The ever-improving Saini removed Kusal Perera (7), who was unable to keep a peach of a yorker away.

After hitting Sundar for a six off the first ball of the 12th over, Mathews holed out at mid-as he got carried away. That put an end to any possibility of Sri Lanka dramatically harboring a comeback.

They didn’t put up much of a fight as batsmen folded their innings in 15.5 overs. The most effective bowler of India was Saini with figures of three for 28 while Sundar and Thakur took two wickets each.

Nonetheless, one thing India managed to do was to keep the scoreboard ticking and keep its run rate above nine for the majority of the match.
