The first day of the first Test versus England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham was dominated by India. The day started with both sides shocking each other with their choices. India selected Shardul Thakur instead of Ishant Sharma in their side, while Ravi Ashwin, the leading spinner, was benched in favor of Ravindra Jadeja. England, too, went with an all-pace approach, boosting their batting with Sam Curran as well as Ollie Robinson. Here is the First Day Of Test Series Updates.
First Day Of Test Series Updates
Joe Root chose to bat early, continuing Virat Kohli’s dismal performance at the toss. Only one thing that went England’s side was that. India’s bowling began with Jasprit Bumrah, who struck in the opening over, trapping Rory Burns in front of the stumps. It was the ideal scenario: a succession of outgoing delivery was succeeded by an approaching delivery, and Burns was subsequently found short.
After that, Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley stuck about for almost 20 overs, putting up 42 runs. The combination was shattered, though, when the former inside-edged Rishabh Pant off his thigh pad. The Indian wicketkeeper convinced Kohli to conduct a review, which appeared to be lethal at the time but turned out to be a smart decision at the time. Sibley then ruined a fresh start by slipping into Mohammed Shami’s leg-side trap.
India didn’t let the tail wag this time
From 66/3, England captain Joe Root with Jonny Bairstow constructed the score admirably. The pair put up 72 runs for the 4th wicket, with the former in particularly good form. He appeared to be a cut above the rest of the England hitters. Root batted brilliantly for a half-century to hold India at a distance while also delighting the stadium.
Shami struck at the approach of Tea to knock Bairstow lbw, much like things seemed to be pulling away from India. Eventually, England was defeated in the last session. It began with Dan Lawrence being caught down the leg-side, succeeded by Jos Buttler being dismissed for an 18-ball duck due to Bumrah’s persistent bowling.
The fact that Shardul Thakur pinned Joe Root just in front of stumps was effectively the last point for England’s side since he might have extended England’s innings. From 138/3, England was battling at 160/9, and India didn’t let the tail wag this time.
Sam Curran, their attack from the last trip, stayed around to hammer some fast runs, 27 of them, and add 23 runs for the final wicket. During the first innings, England were bowled out for just 183 runs, with Bumrah taking 4-wickets. Shami was as impressive, returning with 17-2-28-3 numbers. Thakur had a handful of wickets, while Siraj had one as well.
As a result, India’s starters, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma had to stand out for about an hour. And the pair managed to withstand several unsustainable deliveries while still surprising with their overall skill. India finished the day with a total of 21/0 in 13 overs, putting them in complete control. On the 2nd day, the visitors will have to bat effectively in difficult striking circumstances, whereas England will hope for wickets quickly.
Twitter Reactions:
A word for Rishabh Pant’s keeping today, easy to forget while praising the seamers but such a tough task to keep with the ball moving so much. Quietly ticks another box in his skillset.

We are going to lose 8-9 overs today after extending play for half an hour beyond the scheduled close. Are teams no longer allowed to bowl overs in time?

Indian seamers length on very first day is outstanding. Especially the way they made the mistakes in WTC final. #IndvsEng
