India thrashed New Zealand by 7 wickets in the 2nd T20I in Ranchi’s JSCA International Stadium. With the victory, Rohit Sharma and the team secured a comfortable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series. The series’ final match is set to begin on Sunday, November 21. Tim Southee and his teammates had nothing but pride to battle for in the final of 3 T20Is. After winning the toss, India’s choice to field first disappointed in the initial overs. The Black Caps got off to a promising start, scoring 64 runs on the powerplay. Deepak Chahar dismissed Martin Guptill after he struck a 15-ball 31. Guptill also surpassed Virat Kohli to become the all-time highest T20I run-scorer. Daryl Mitchell 31 and Mark Chapman 21, but were unable to continue the momentum.

India mounted a turnaround after the first 6 overs, while the Kiwis could only manage 89 runs in their final 14 overs. Glenn Phillips hit a 21-ball 34, while Tim Seifert and James Neesham were unable to get going. Furthermore, Neesham managed just 3 runs off 12 balls before Bhuvneshwar Kumar put a stop to his suffering. In the conclusion, the visitors scored 153/6 in 20 overs. Harshal Patel got 3 wickets on his debut.

India was cautious in its run-chase, rather than firing away. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma ensured that the Men in Blue reached 45 runs in the power play, without dropping a wicket. The New Zealand bowlers were unable to create a breakthrough, however, they were not able to stop India to win the match. Even towards the end of their innings, India had not lost a wicket and had scored 79 important runs.

Rahul reached his 50 off 40 deliveries with a 6 against Adam Milne. Rohit also hammered Mitchell Santner over the boundaries twice in the previous over. Rohit and Rahul rushed up to the challenge and scored 100 runs in 70 balls. Rahul dropped after making a 49-ball 65. Then,  Rohit was out following a 36-ball 55, but the Indian team still managed to reach the mark with 2.4 overs remaining.
