Jaiswal and Gill Extend India’s Control
Resuming at 318 for 2, India’s young duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill continued from where they left off on Day 1. Jaiswal looked set for a second double century but was run out for 175 after a mix-up with Gill. His innings, filled with elegant drives and precise footwork, kept India well ahead in the game.
Gill, calm and composed, went on to score a patient 129 not out, his 10th Test hundred, holding one end even as wickets fell around him. Nitish Kumar Reddy added a fluent 44, while Dhruv Jurel contributed 43 to push India past the 500 mark. Captain Rohit Sharma eventually declared late in the second session, allowing the bowlers ample time to attack the visitors.
West Indies Struggle Despite Resistance
Chasing a massive total, West Indies’ top order once again faltered. John Campbell was dismissed in a bizarre manner when a ball ricocheted off Sai Sudharsan’s helmet and was caught by the keeper. Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze offered some resistance with a steady 66-run partnership. However, both batters were removed in quick succession, triggering a collapse from 87/1 to 107/4.
Shai Hope and Tevin Imlach batted cautiously towards the close, surviving India’s relentless spin attack. The pitch offered some turn, and Ravindra Jadeja made the most of it, finishing the day with figures of 3 for 37. Kuldeep Yadav also picked up a wicket as India tightened their grip.
What Lies Ahead
With a lead of nearly 400 runs, India are firmly in control. The focus on Day 3 will be on finishing the job early and pushing for an innings victory. For West Indies, it’s about survival, application, and pride as they look to avoid another heavy defeat.
