India’s white-ball team named Six uncapped players for the series against Sri Lanka, but tour vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar claims that this is not the issue because the whole squad has gained the necessary confidence due to the IPL. Bhuvneshwar feels youngsters will carry their IPL confidence.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar feels that young people will bring IPL confidence to the Sri Lankan series
Having key players like captain Virat Kohli and his limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma in England for a Test series, the Indian side for the series against Sri Lanka will be headed by opener Shikhar Dhawan and will include 6-uncapped youngsters.
Several of these performed admirably in the now-suspended Indian Premier League, earning their first call-up to the national team. Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Rana, Krishnappa Gowtham, Chetan Sakaria (pacer), Varun Chakravarthy and Ruturaj Gaikwad are among the players.
“We have good players and they have experience of IPL, they are young but they have experience of IPL, playing T20 for so many years and they have done well for their teams,” Bhuvneshwar told on the Star Sports show ‘Follow the Blues.’
“So, it will be beneficial for the team that they will carry the confidence of IPL and they are young and talented, there is a good mix with the experienced players and this will be a good tour”.
“Young players who have come for their first tour and came after doing well in IPL so if they do well here then it will be great for their confidence,” he added.
‘Domestic Cricket Helps Me Get The Required Match Practice’: Bhuvneshwar
Bhuvneshwar feels youngsters will carry their IPL confidence. Last year’s IPL saw the experienced bowler suffer a thigh muscle ailment, that forced him to miss the league and also the Australian tour. In the limited-overs home series against England in March, the bowler returned to the national team after a bad injury layoff. He added that domestic cricket helped him stay competitive.
“When I was almost recovered, domestic cricket was going on as well. So my focus was to get fit and make a comeback and then I started the preparation for the match,” he said. “Before the England series, I played domestic cricket, so that it helps me get the required match practice. One shouldn’t take things lightly while playing domestic cricket and that kept me motivated to play for India and to stay fit.”
The India-Sri Lanka series was postponed after the host side’s batting coach Grant Flower and data analyst G T Niroshan tested positive for COVID-19 in their comeback from a UK tour. The 3 One-Day Internationals and as many T20 Internationals scheduled for July 18 will begin.
