Shammi Silva, the President of SLC, said that there were only supposed to be 3 matches at first, but the BCCI finally agreed to allow them to host six. SLC will be able to generate a significant amount of additional cash as a result of this high-profile series and plans to use this money to develop a successful economy.
“We had initially finalized to host three matches. But after some negotiations with the Indian Cricket Board, we managed to increase the matches to six which will enable us to raise the additional US $6 million in revenue. SLC will be able to provide a large income to the country with Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa’s vision of building a strong economy through Sports.”
‘We missed out on several tours as scheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic’: SLC President
The SLC President went on to say that COVID-19 caused a lot of events to be canceled in the middle of the season, causing the cricketing calendar to be delayed. Despite these pressures, the SLC did not reduce or remove any of the players’ salaries. Also, the allowances haven’t changed, and they want to keep them the same as in the future, with a lot of frequent games approaching in 2021.
“We missed out on several tours as scheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, yet we did not reduce the monthly salaries and allowances of our cricketers. None of their facilities were deducted either. In the face of this situation, the cricketers should give out their best display to the country.”
