The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced that the Indian management team would never look for a substitute for Shubman Gill, who has been pulled out from the five-match Test series against England owing to a shin stress fracture and will be out for at least 2 months. No replacement for Shubman Gill, confirms the BCCI.

As a result, Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal are expected to begin for the hosts, with Bengal player Abhimanyu Easwaran serving as a reserve opening batter for Team India.
The BCCI will have to find a way to deal with a 23-player team, with Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul certain to participate in the Playing- XI, despite suggestions that Prithvi Shaw may replace Gill in the team.
“When Prithvi Shaw was not considered in the pool of 24 players who travelled, why should it be any different now,” said BCCI source.
Shaw And Devdutt Padikkal As Opening Reserves For Shubman Gill
According to estimates, the team’s administration has asked Shaw and left-handed opener Devdutt Padikkal as reserves for Gill, however, the source added that he must wait since he is a tremendous talent who shouldn’t be rushed into the lineup just like. Shaw and Padikkal are both on a limited-overs tour in Sri Lanka.
“As for Devdutt Padikkal, well, he’s a great talent but doesn’t deserve to be pushed to the wall like this. His time will come,” the source added.
Though Ravichandran Ashwin, the experienced off-spinner, will play for Surrey in the County game beginning July 11, the Indian team itself will play a warm-up match in Durham starting July 20 and an intra-squad match before the series begins in Nottingham on August 4.
