IND vs ENG: 3 Players Who Can Replace Shreyas Iyer In The Remaining 2 ODI’s

Shreyas Iyer dislocated his shoulder after attempting to stop the ball. He has been ruled out of the remaining 2 ODI’s against England. Iyer looked all set to cement his number 4 spot in the ODI’s but now has to vacate his spot. The Indian team isn’t short of talent. No player is indispensable in the current Indian setup. Players like KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan have learned this the hard way. Similarly, with Iyer’s unavailability, there are opportunities for others to grab.

StumpsandBails looks at 3 players who can replace Shreyas Iyer in the last 2 ODI’s:

#3 Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill is surely one of the best young talents in the world. He opened for India in the 3rd match against Australia in Canberra. Gill provided a good account of himself in that game. He hasn’t set the stage on fire in his limited ODI appearances. But given a fair run of opportunities, Gill will surely come up with goods. He can be an ideal candidate at number 4 who can steer the ship for India. If he gets a chance to bat along with any one of the senior batsmen in the side, it is sure to help his game even more.

#2 Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant has had a whirlwind couple of months. He has played one match-winning knock after the other. Pant was unstoppable in the red-ball format. He made his way into the Indian limited-overs squad thanks to his Test exploits. Pant was decent in the T20I’s. He did what was expected of him. A lot of people had expected India to go in with Pant as the keeper-batsman ahead of KL Rahul. But the Indian team management reposed their faith in KL Rahul. Now with Iyer not being there in the squad, there is a good chance for Pant to stake a claim to the number 4 spot.

#1 Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav in just a couple of T20I innings has taken Indian cricket by storm. His fearless exhibition of batting display has caught universal attention. Yadav has toiled the hard way in domestic cricket. He isn’t an overnight sensation, he has slowly climbed up the ranks. He literally broke the Indian team’s door for selection in the T20I squad. Yadav made complete use of the opportunity that he received. Iyer and Yadav are possibly vying for that one single number 4 spot in India’s World Cup squad. The injury to Iyer opens up a spot for Yadav at his expense. Yadav will be keen to grab this chance and make his presence felt in the ODI setup too.
