IND Tour Of SA Likely To Push Back By A Week Due To Omicron Variant

India was slated to tour South Africa for a mega-series in December-January, but all preparations were opposed by the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant in the country. In the most recent development, it has been revealed that India’s tour to the nation may be postponed by 1 week due to fears over the omicron variant. Here is all about India Tour Of SA.

According to a BCCI official, both cricket boards are frequently in communication to assure the series proceeds properly, although it is likely to be delayed by a week. The source, however, said that they are still waiting for confirmation from the Government of India.

Health and safety of our players are of utmost importance: BCCI

“We are discussing to push back the series by a week due to the threat of Omicron COVID variant and we are awaiting the Indian government nod, both boards are in constant touch and everything is being discussed. The health and safety of our players are of utmost importance,” a BCCI official stated.

It should be mentioned that India is prepared to leave South Africa for a mega-series consisting of 3 Tests and ODIs, followed by 4 T20Is, with the first Test scheduled for December 17. In a surprising move, the South African authorities have declared that they will provide a safe space for Team India players if they visit the country to conclude their slated series.

“South Africa will take all precautions necessary to ensure the health and safety of the Indian teams. A full Bio-secure environment will be established around both the South African and Indian ‘A’ Teams as well as the two National Teams. India’s decision to show solidarity by choosing to continue with the tour of the Indian ‘A’ Team stands in contrast with a number of countries who have decided to close their borders and to restrict travel from Southern African,” said the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO).
