If It’s 7 Days Of Quarantine, We Can Proceed – BCB Chief

Sri Lanka Cricket Has Informed Of A Seven-Day Quarantine For Bangladesh:

The Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Saturday that Sri Lanka Cricket had told them of a seven-day quarantine ahead of their upcoming three-game test series against Sri Lanka.

Earlier, a leading sports website announced that the future of the tour was in doubt after a 14-day quarantine for tourists was proposed by Sri Lanka’s health and safety agencies. However, according to BCB Chief Executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the host board has now suggested that the seven-day quarantine will be stuck.

“We interact with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on a regular basis. We sought comprehensive plans from them, but they told us that they were talking to their health ministry about the quarantine time.

They are trying to reduce the number of days for quarantine as much as possible and make it tolerable for our teams, “Nizamuddin told reporters at the Sher-e – Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.

“In our last contact with them, SLC told us that we had to be in quarantine for the first seven days after arrival, after which the players could go ahead with the training schedule. We assume that if there are seven days of quarantine remaining, we will continue according to our plans. [But] I think we should wait for input from the SLC before we make any more comments.

The Sri Lankan tour of Bangladesh, scheduled for July-August, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bangladesh, as currently planned, is expected to fly to Sri Lanka on September 27 for the three-test series scheduled to start on October 24.

Nizamuddin added that while they are faced with some difficulties in planning their tour plans and may need some late changes due to the hosts’ delay in preparing the official schedule and the bio-bubble plan for the tour, it was understandable as things are changing rapidly in the current scenario.

“I don’t think they’re making any deliberate pause. They’re going to communicate with us what they’re going to get from the government after interacting with their health ministry. They’re already trying to do it. They’re working on it. Hopefully, we’ll get to hear from them in the next two-three days,” he said.

“Some of our international coaches are preparing to join the team directly in Colombo, so we need to know what the protocol is for them and for those who are going to fly with the team. SLC will notify us about the official order of the relevant ministry. We spoke to them yesterday, and we expect to hear from them in the next two or three days.

“We will need to make some small changes to our plans, and that is understandable, and I don’t think it will have a major impact as we prepare accordingly,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh began its preparations on Monday, with the 24 representatives set to tour Sri Lanka by completing the COVID-19 tests upon re-aggregation. The contingent consists of cricketers, support staff, and a few members of the High-Performance Team.

BCB is preparing a week-long residential camp ahead of the tour, which will mark the resumption of competitive cricket on both sides. The residential camp is scheduled to begin on September 21st.

The BCB will perform the COVID-19 tests in four stages, with three tests scheduled for September 18, 21, and 24, and the final test 72 hours prior to the flight to Sri Lanka.
