‘I May Have To Slap Them 2 Or 3 Times’: Arjuna Ranatunga Reacts On The SL Players’ Bio-Bubble Violation

Former Sri Lankan captain, Arjuna Ranatunga is noted for his no-nonsense and direct style. Even when he was playing cricket in the 1980s and 1990s, the former left-handed batsman was a fierce competitor who would take the battle to the opponents. He is also noted for his strict discipline, as seen by his harsh treatment of Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, Danushka Gunathilaka during Sri Lanka’s limited-overs series against England. let’s discuss Arjuna Ranatunga About SL Players’ Bio-Bubble Violation.

Arjuna Ranatunga About SL Players’ Bio-Bubble Violation

Ranatunga was not impressed with the trio and claimed that if he had been in control of the team, he would have slapped the players 2 to 3 times. The Sri Lankan team has been further weakened by the suspension of three senior players, even against a B-looking solid England team.

The format change hasn’t benefited the visitors, who have now lost the ODI series 2-0 with one game remaining. The bio-bubble incident involving Mendis, Dickwella, and Gunathilaka has not gone down well with Ranatunga, former Sri Lankan players, and supporters, as the team has been troubled by problems one after the other.

The Cricket administration was doing nothing about that, they needed publicity’: Arjuna Ranatunga

The former Sri Lankan didn’t skip words and said: “I would not allow the players to play with social media. They use Facebook, Instagram and do everything other than playing cricket. The Cricket administration was doing nothing about that. They only want publicity. If I was the captain of the team, these three players would have been clever players. I may have to slap them two or three times.”

Whereas Ranatunga really wants to slap the trio, cricketer-turned-commentator Kumar Sangakkara also had an interesting view on the issue, proposing that the Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) provide Mendis, Gunathilaka, and Dickwella with support and counseling in order for them to emerge as better people as a result of the irritating incident.

“The three players are very senior players, one the vice-captain (Kusal Mendis). There will be an inquiry and there will be a sanction. I hope that support and counseling will be made available to keep developing them, not just skill-wise as cricketers but more as people, to get them really focused on living a positive lifestyle on and off the field.”
