I Am Very Happy That I Could Contribute For The Team: Thakur

As soon as he found that he will be appearing in The Oval Test versus England, Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur stated that he wanted to make an immediate contribution for the side. On the last day of the match on Monday, India thrashed England by 157 runs. Having looked at the Test match, Thakur, who missed the 2nd and 3rd Tests, had made a significant contribution to the team’s victory in the 4th Test. During the 1st innings, Thakur hit 57 runs off 36 balls to enable India come back from 127 for 7 to reach 191. Later, with the ball, he removed Ollie Pope for 81 as the batter appeared to be on his way to a huge century. With the bat, the Mumbai star followed up with a 60 in the 2nd innings, when he was part of a crucial combination with Jasprit Bumrah. On day 5, the right-arm speedster broke the initial 100-run partnership and also claimed Joe Root’s wicket.

With all of these efforts, many people believed that he should have been named player of the match for having such a significant influence on the game. However, Rohit Sharma received the player of the match award, for his 127 knock in the 2nd innings. Thakur, on the other hand, was pleased with his effort, which lifted India to a 2-1 lead.

I always believed that I had the ability to bat: Shardul Thakur

“It feels great, the day I got to know I am playing the game, I planned on creating an impact in this game and create such an impact that I have to make a useful and winning contribution for the team. On day five, with this result, I am very happy that I could contribute more than 100 runs and three wickets in the game. I always believed that I had the ability to bat, in the nets, there was enough time to bat. I think these are the small things I have done in the nets,” Thakur said.

India was always going to be the favourites after setting England a huge 368-run target to win. However, Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed set them off to a good start with a hundred partnership, which Thakur interrupted. India managed to pick up 6 wickets in the post-lunch session, despite 4 of them falling in the short of 6 runs, putting India ahead. England were finally dismissed for 210 runs.
