Former Australian player Simon Katich (Happy Birthday Simon Katich) is celebrating his 47th today.
Katich was born on August 21, 1975 in Middle Swan, West Australia and is known for his reliable batting and all-round performance.
During his international career, he has scored 5581 runs (test+ODI+T20 combined), including 11 centuries and 34 half centuries, and he has played a crucial role in guiding Australia to many important matches.
Katich represented Australia in all formats of the game and is a key player of his side for providing solid support in the middle-overs with his dependable hitting.
Simon Katich’s debut in international cricket and playing style
He received the first Australian Test call-up against Sri Lanka due to his consistency at the First Class level. The chicken pox, however, caused him to miss the debut. On August 16, 2001, against England, he finally got his Test debut.
Despite his unpleasant technique and was never visually appealing, he excelled at scoring runs, which is ultimately what counts. Although there had been some problems with the cricket board’s contract, he never let them have an effect on his performance.
He smashed the previous record held by Michael Bevan in the 2007–08 season by scoring a total of 1506 runs in the domestic circuit. In 2010, the ICC announced the World Test Team, which included him.
He has 4188 runs at 45.03 with 10 centuries and 25 half-centuries. The 35.78 ODI average, which includes 1 century and 9 fifties, does not truly convey the full picture. Look at his incredible First-Class record: in 266 games, he scored 20926 runs at an average of 52.84, with 58 hundreds and 111 fifty-sixes.
Simon Katich – The Coach
In 2015, he assisted KKR as an assistant coach, and as of 2019, he has managed RCB as head coach.
The former Australia skipper was appointed as the batting coach of the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad in December 2021. However, he resigned from the post to avoid the long time in IPL 2022 bio-bubble.
