Happy Birthday Corey Anderson – One Of The Most Explosive Kiwi T20 Cricketers

New Zealand all-rounder Corey James Anderson was born on 13 December 1990 in Christchurch.

He became the youngest Kiwi player to get a contract from New Zealand cricket at the age of 16. Anderson made much more of an impression as a batsman with his aggression and ruthlessness. He made his first-class debut for Central Districts when they faced Canterbury in March 2007.

The left-hand batsman and left-hand bowler had to, however, wait till 2012 until he scored his maiden first-class century against Otago for Northern Districts. Following that, Anderson was picked up in the New Zealand T20 and ODI squads to tour South Africa in the 2012-13 season.

He made his T20 debut against South Africa at Durban in December 2012 and his ODI debut against England at Cardiff in June 2013.

Anderson played his maiden Test against Bangladesh in July 2013. Though he didn’t shine on debut, he scored 116 of 173 balls in the second Test match against them.

He made a big splash when he scored the fastest ODI century in only 36 balls against West Indies in Queenstown. In doing so, he overtook Shahid Afridi’s record by scoring a ton by one delivery.

That innings of Anderson saw him score 131 runs in 47 balls with 14 sixes and 6 fours.

He now plays across the world in various T20 leagues, representing Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, Somerset in Vitality Blast, Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL, and Lahore Qalanders in the PSL. Anderson plays for Northern Districts in New Zealand first-class cricket.

In the IPL, he made his debut for Mumbai Indians in 2014. He switched over to Delhi Daredevils in 2017 and was selected by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 season.

Anderson had a reasonable outing in the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 as he scored two fifties and picked up 14 wickets in the tournament.

Nicknamed Coza, he has not been able to live up to his reputation in T20Is and ODIs, though he is one of the most sought-after Kiwi cricketers in T20 leagues.
