Gill Is A ‘Complete Athlete’, Says India’s Fielding Coach- R Sridhar

When India faces New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship final later this month, all eyes will be on Shubman Gill. It would be a major test of character for him, considering he has only played a few international matches. Shubman Gill Is the most complete Athlete says India’s fielding coach R Sridhar.

Furthermore, in recent years, England has not been a welcoming environment for Test openers. Gill has to face Trent Boult, Tim Southee, and Neil Wagner in the summit clash.

Gill’s strengths and weaknesses are well observed in the IPL or in India’A’- R Sridhar

Shubman is relatively fresh to international cricket, having played in only seven Tests, yet he has received praise from many experts across the world. While his hitting style isn’t without faults, his fielding ability has also been impressive. R Sridhar, India’s fielding coach, described Gill as a “complete athlete” in a statement.

“Talking about Shubman, I feel Shubman Gill is the most complete athlete I have seen. He is slim, tall, runs fast, and has got good hand-eye coordination. On most occasions when a new player comes in – we know his strengths and weaknesses as we would have seen him play in the IPL or in India ‘A,” said Sridhar in a chat with the Times of India.

“My job as the fielding coach is to make sure his mindset is in tune with the national team. We also observe his hand-eye coordination, his reflexes, how good his hands are, his speed to the ball and ability to throw from the deep and ball sense,” he added.

Gill will have much work to do with ‘Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja’ in the Lineup

When the spinners are in action, Gill is frequently seen as a close-in fielder. The 21-year-fast old’s reflexes allow him to react quickly and attack the ball. Although spinners in England aren’t known for getting much help, Gill will have some work to do on the third or fourth day with Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the lineup.

Meanwhile, on June 2, the Indian squad will go to England for the World T20 final and a five-match Test series against the Three Lions. Virat Kohli’s team, on the other hand, would be subjected to a 10-day quarantine upon their arrival. As a result, they won’t have much time to prepare for the showdown with the Kiwis, which starts on June 18 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
