Former India opening batsman and sitting Member of Parliament from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir has found faults with Pakistan’s tight security arrangement for ongoing Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan.
It is worth mentioning that international cricket has returned to Karachi after a decade with this three-match ODI series. It was only due to Pakistan’s tight arrangement that the Sri Lanka players had agreed to tour the nation.
However, what comes as a behind the scene scenario of the series is a potential curfew being placed in Karachi. The video posted by Gambhir on his official Twitter handle sees both the teams traveling from their hotel to the stadium amidst 30+ security vehicles.
The people behind the camera are seen discussing how a curfew has been placed to make sure that a cricket match is played in Karachi. The manner in which the voices are making fun of the concerned authorities speaks a lot about the whole arrangement.
“Itna Kashmir kiya ke Karachi bhool gaye (They are so concerned about Kashmir that they forgot Karachi),” read the caption on Gambhir’s tweet.
As far as the series is concerned, the first ODI was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to incessant rain in Karachi. The second ODI played at the same venue saw Pakistan beating the visitors by 67 runs.
After Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed won the toss and chose to bat, Pakistan scored a handsome 305/7 in 50 overs on the back of Babar Azam scoring 115 (105) with the help of eight fours and four sixes.
Fast bowler Usman Shinwari registering bowling figures of 10-0-51-5 saw the hosts restricting Sri Lanka to 238 in 46.5 overs.
