Gary Kirsten To Return to South African Set Up

Former South African opening batsman and coach Gary Kirsten could return to the South African setup. Kirsten, who was once the coach for Team India for the ICC World Cup in 2011, was the manager of the Proteas between October 2011 and July 2013. Under his time tenure as the manager, South Africans became the top Test-playing nation in the world.

Kirsten To Return To The South African Setup:

He could join as a mentor to the current interim team director Enoch Nkwe for the upcoming Test match series against Team England, according to a report in ESPN Cricinfo.

Kirsten was quoted as saying in an interview for the website, “I would always give my contribution to help where people think I can add value. It would, however, be part of a bigger process to the commitment to rebuild a solid system.”

Enoch Nkwe was appointed after the successful completion of his task with Johannesburg-based Lions provincial side in the 2018-19 season. He grabbed the domestic first-class four-day and T20 contracts. He was given charge of the South African team that went to India earlier this year.

The report said that a proposal has been sent to Cricket South Africa by a group of senior officials. It also mentioned that the legendary South African players, Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis and Mark Boucher, could soon be approached by the board to turn around the fortunes of the team.

South Africa is a leading force in international cricket. It has witnessed its performance drop across all formats of the game over the past couple of years. It includes their dismal show at the ICC World Cup earlier this year.
