Forgotten Indian Cricketers From The 90s: In the age of IPL and T20 cricket, many players have received Indian caps in the last few years. The coveted Indian cap is no longer an impossible dream. There was a time in Indian cricket though when breaking into the team wasn’t as easy. It needed years of hardworking, determination, passion, and importantly luck.

The lucky few who got the cap:
Only a select few can boast of earning an Indian cap up until the IPL especially. The pressure to deliver in every game to hold onto their place forced them to play well within themselves. It was only the fab five or players like Zaheer Khan who got an extended run. These players enjoyed a top international careers. But the same can’t be said about some of the others.
Not all are lucky to land a lucrative job post their playing days:
We look at a few such former Indian cricketers who are away from public memory. These cricketers haven’t really had a blazing post-retirement career in the cricketing space. Their peers might have stepped into broadcasting and coaching thereby staying in public memory. But this luxury hasn’t been awarded to everyone.
We look at a few such forgotten Indian cricketers from the 90s:
#1 Vijay Bharadwaj
He was touted to be the next big thing in Indian cricket at one point in time. Vijay Bharadwaj lived up to the hype in his first series. He played in the multi-nation LG Cup. Bharadwaj starred with both bat and ball. He was awarded the player of the tournament for his all-round exploits. But that sadly proved to be a mere footnote in what remains a highly unfulfilled career. He soon went into obscurity and fans often mention him in the comments of a cricketing video during his playing days.
#2 Jacob Martin
He is another name from the 90s batch that the fans could relate to. Jacob Martin was a stylish right-handed middle-order player who made his ODI Debut in 1999. He was a regular member of the side in the Carlton-United series featuring Australia and Pakistan. Martin though could never really break the shackles and could consider himself a tad unlucky. He had to play all his 10 games away from India. Martin mustered just 158 runs at a paltry average of 22.57 and a strike rate of 47.73.
#3 Amay Khurasiya
He was one of the domestic workhorses who forced his way into the Indian side. Amay Khurasiya was known for his flamboyant batting style. He made his ODI Debut in a similar style scoring 57 off 45 balls. But Khurasiya couldn’t quite maintain the same consistency after that spectacular debut.
He was part of India’s ODI World Cup squad in 1999 but didn’t feature in a single game. Khurasiya made a comeback to the ODI team in 2001 but failed to grab a couple of chances. He was relegated once again. His career comprised a total of 12 ODIs and 149 runs scored at an average of 14.54.
