Indian off-spinner, R Ashwin has stated that he has learned to ignore extraneous distractions at this point in his career. Ashwin has received a lot of criticism for his on-field exploits, but after playing for so long, cricket has kept one of his primary goals.
Ashwin has performed admirably in India’s current Test match versus the Kiwis at Green Park in Kanpur. During the first innings, the off-spinner took 3 wickets (Will Young, William Somerville, and Kyle Jamieson) and bowled at a 1.90 economy rate in 42.3 overs.
Axar Patel, on the other hand, was the wreaker-in-chief, grabbing 5 wickets to destroy the foundation of the New Zealand batting line. India took a 49-run lead in the first innings, due to the performances of Ashwin and Patel.
I cannot be saying cliched things: R Ashwin
“Look, I thought we stuck together really well as a bowling unit. 130-140 overs on that sort of pitch and going less than 2.5 runs per over, it was always going to be hard work and we were prepared for that,” said Ashwin.
“Everyone played their role perfectly. I felt the new ball was an easier time to bat in terms of scoring runs, but we got wickets with the second new ball,” he stated.
“I thought it was a wonderful effort. Sometimes it is easier said than done. I cannot be saying cliched things. I have lived through expectations for a while now, for me, cricket is the purpose of my life. I am at that stage where I am shutting the outside noise better than I have ever done,” he added.
Ashwin also anticipated that a handful of Indian hitters will record huge scores on the challenging track to bat on. Ashwin has been in and out of the Test team for some time, but he is still a major asset to Team India. He recently returned to white-ball action for Team India in the T20 World Cup.
