New Zealand, on the other hand, proved to be the superior team on the final day and were declared winners at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Needless to say, Indian captain, Virat Kohli was saddened by the loss since his team had been the favorite to win the tournament. Kohli discussed the necessity for a minimum of three-Test series to determine the winners of the WTC Final in the future following the heartbreaking loss.

“I am not in absolute agreement of deciding the best Test side in the world over the course of one game. If it is a Test series, it has to be a test of character over three Tests – which team has the ability to come back in the series or totally blow away the other team,” the 32-year-old asserted after the game.

Many People Agreed With The Indian Captain’s Plan In The WTC Final, But Few Did Not. Kohli’s comments opened up a heated discussion, and cricket fans were split on the issue. While many people agreed with the Indian captain’s plan, others did not. Former captain for England, Michael Vaughan looks into the final match. In response to Kohli’s thoughts on Twitter, Vaughan pointed out that, given the busy calendar, arranging a three-match series for the WTC final doesn’t seem possible.

He also figured that final are one-off games that test the character of players. “Where in the schedule would it fit in ?? Is the IPL going to reduce the year of the final tournament by 2 weeks so it could fit in? Doubt it ..: Finals are one-off games where teams/individuals know they have to deliver … that’s what makes them so great,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, India’s Test team will play England in a five-match series. Virat Kohli’s team defeated England at home earlier this year, and they hope to repeat the performance. Joe Root’s team, on the other hand, would be delighted to settle the score.
