Nothing worked well for Team India in the T20 World Cup 2021, as they were disqualified from the league stage. The Men in Blue experienced heartbreaking failures versus Pakistan and New Zealand, confirming they would not advance to the semi-finals. With the Virat Kohli-led squad failing to meet that standard, many spectators and experts criticized the happenings, The unavailability of Yuzvendra Chahal was considered one of the primary causes for India’s defeat. The experienced leg-spinner was unexpectedly dismissed from the lineup prior to the event. Chetan Sharma, the BCCI’s chief selector, stated that the committee preferred swift spinners, which is why Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy were chosen instead of Chahal.
Chahal, shockingly, had a great run in the 2nd leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which was contested on UAE conditions. Many expected Chahal to be returned to the team, however, this did not happen. Discussing the loss, the 31-year-old revealed that he was disappointed because he had been a regular team member since 2017. But, his family and friends supported the leggie in restoring his confidence.
I decided to back my strengths and overcome my confusion: Chahal
“I was not dropped in four years and then I got dropped for such a marquee event. I felt really bad. I was down for two-three days. But then I knew the second leg of the IPL was still around the corner. I went back to my coaches and spoke to them a lot,” Chahal said in a conversation.
“My wife and family were constantly encouraging me. My fans kept putting out motivational posts. That buoyed me. I decided to back my strengths and overcome my confusion. I couldn’t have sulked for long because that would have impacted my IPL form,” he added.
Furthermore, Chahal shall wear the national colors once again as a member of India’s team for the next three-match T20I series versus New Zealand, which begins on November 17. The leg-spinner will undoubtedly have much to prove, and it will be exciting to see how he plays. The Kiwis, who placed second in the T20 World Cup 2021, will be desperate to do well.
