Favorites to Win ICC Champions Trophy 2025
ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is set to start in 9 days, is on Wednesday, 19th February 2025. The first match is set between the reigning champions Pakistan and New Zealand. The question that itches the excitement is, who are the Favorites to Win ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The Contenders
#4 New Zealand – New Zealand may although not have a large number of star players, but their squad is quite strong and has a lotta depth. They have mastered the balance of batting and bowling which makes them a strong side. After an early exit from the T20 World Cup, the team is focused on proving themselves strong in an ICC event. While the team is strong overall, their only potential vulnerability would be if either Matt Henry or Lockie Ferguson were injured in the recent matches.
#3 Pakistan- As defending champions, Pakistan will look to claim their title on their home ground. Their 2017 victory remains a historic moment in cricket, and they’ll aim to repeat that success in 2025. With Babar Azam, one of the top batsmen globally, and Shaheen Shah Afridi spearheading a formidable bowling attack, Pakistan is well-positioned. The home-turf advantage makes them a strong contender for the title once again.
#2 India- Team India has started their year 2025 on a great note with the England Tour of India 2025 series win, they have now set sights on the Champions Trophy title. Rohit Sharma who was constantly being questioned about his form, scored a century in the 2nd ODI. All-rounders like Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar add balance to the team, making significant contributions with both bat and ball.
However apart from Jasprit Bumrah’s injury, the top order has lacked consistency, with Shreyas Iyer and occasional contributions from KL Rahul being key exceptions. Shubman Gill’s recent fifty against England offers a promising sign of the team’s batting strength.
#1 Australia- Australia’s top-order, including Steve Smith, Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, and Josh Inglis, has been in great form recently. Smith scored a century in the Big Bash League, Maxwell played aggressive innings, and Inglis impressed in the Test series against Sri Lanka. Australia’s history in international tournaments gives them experience and a winning mindset, with eight squad members from their 2009 World Cup victory.
However, injuries to Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and other bowlers raise concerns, and Stoinis’ surprise retirement, raises concerns about their team depth.
