Explained: What Will Happen If The ICC World Test Championship Final Ends In A Draw

The ICC officially launched the inaugural World Test Championship on August 1 2019 with the first Ashes Test. After playing for almost 2 years, two finalists of the first ICC World Test Championship have been finalized as team India and New Zealand have booked their birth in the prestigious finale. India beat England in the final Test of the four-match series to seal their spot. The World Test Championship Final is now all slated to take place from June 18, 2021.

However, there are questions on everyone’s mind that what happens if the Test match final between India and New Zealand ends in a draw. Since this is a Test match, it is quite certain that the Test match can end in a draw and that no tie-breaker will take place between the two teams to come to a result in the process.

Who Will Win The World Test Championship If Finals End In A Draw?

If the final Test match between India and New Zealand of the ICC World Test Championship ends in a draw, the two finalists will share the trophy. India will be well aware of these scenarios now and they’ll strategise accordingly. Finals will be played in England and they have always favoured the seaming track. Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will be key bowler for England pitches. Bhuveneshwar Kumar has a great record in England and he’ll be in contention to play too.

ICC has also mentioned that there is a provision of a reserve day but, that provision only comes into play if there is a loss in the net playing time. The net playing time refers to the standard game time set by the International Cricket Council (ICC), which is set at 30 hours of play (six hours per day). The reserve day comes into play only if the regulation time has not been fulfilled For example, if an hour’s play is lost due to rain or poor light and the hour’s play is covered on any of the other days of the Test match, there will be no reserve day.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) may be forced to move the final of the event from the historic Lord’s due to lack of financial agreement between the international body and the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The ICC and ECB have enquired a couple of other grounds for the availability of which the Ageas Bowl or The Rose Bowl in Southampton is the frontrunner to host the marquee event.
