Enoch Nkwe Quits As South Africa’s Assistant Coach

Enoch Nkwe, the assistant coach of the South African men’s team, has resigned with official notification, according to unexpected reports. This was announced by Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday. Nkwe has been in the position since December 2019 and has shown to be successful in leading the team through a stressful time.

CSA attempted everything it could to prevent Nkwe from quitting, but it was unable to do so because he needed to concentrate more on his career advancement. Nkwe’s comeback to coaching as a stronger individual, according to CSA, is also a possibility. It also expressed gratitude to Nkwe for his unquestioning loyalty to the team over the past 2 years.

We are comforted by the fact that Enoch Nkwe remains committed to SA cricket: Lawson Naidoo

While moving away from his role as the squad’s assistant coach throughout his interview with CSA, Nkwe discussed the team’s atmosphere and expressed some reservations about it. Before making a decision, the CSA board will investigate the points presented by Nkwe. The temporary CEO of the CSA, Pholetsi Moseki, has been entrusted with finding a competent substitute for Nkwe.

CSA Board chairperson Lawson Naidoo says, “It is deeply disappointing to lose someone of Enoch’s caliber at this time, but we fully understand and respect his decision. We are comforted by the fact that he remains committed to SA cricket and hopes that he will be back serving the game that we all love. He has been and continues to be an inspiration to young cricketers and coaches.”

Nkwe’s surprise statement comes only days before the team’s limited-overs trip to Sri Lanka, which starts on 02 September. David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, and Quinton de Kock are among the players who will miss the trip due to rest, injury, and personal reasons, correspondingly. South Africa will play 3 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and as many Twenty-20 Internationals (T20Is). The 6 white-ball matches are an excellent warm-up for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

South Africa is coming off victories over the West Indies and Ireland, whereas Sri Lanka defeated India in a T20I series.
