Welcome back to the detailed updates of 1st Test Day 2, which is taking place in Manchester at Old Trafford.
2nd Day starts
Babar Azam and Shan returned to the pitch. And this time James Anderson opened the bowling.
Bad day for Babar Azam
James Anderson bowled his sixth ball of the day, and Babar Azam dismissed, who had played tremendously on opening day. When James Anderson drew Babar into a tried drive and England skipper Joe Root had caught him. Here ended the partnership of Babar Azam with Shan Masood on 96 and Pakistan 139/3.
Half-century for Masood
Having restarted on 46 runs, Shan Masood scored his half-century in 156 deliveries. Now the responsibility on the shoulder of Masood to take Pakistan to a good score in the first inning of the 1st Test.
One Boundary and gone!
After one boundary, Stuart Broad spelled one length delivery. Asad Shafiq got a leading edge off the bat and an easy catch for Stokes. Asad Shafiq OUT!! Shafiq made 7 runs in 22 deliveries. Pakistan reached 150 with the loss of 4 wickets. What a fantastic start of the day for team England.
Deadly Duos
The latest wicket of Babar Azam taken by James Anderson and Asad Shafiq by Stuart Broad took them to surpass another great Test wicket-taking pair.
Woakes finds his reward
On this 2nd day of the first Test, Chris Woakes was able to remove Mohammad Rizwan. Chris Woakes dismissed Rizwan caught by Jos Buttler. Rizwan backed to the pavilion by making 9 runs in 41 balls.
With this Pakistan was at 179 after losing 5 wickets.
Pakistan Crossed 200
Until lunchtime, Shadab Khan and Shan Masood took Pakistan’s score to 187/5, and very quickly they took Pakistan to surpass 200 run marks.
Fifty partnership up
Shadab Khan and Shan Masood completed their fifty runs partnership for the sixth wicket with a couple of tremendous knocks and quick runs. After the dangerous bowling of Anderson and Broad, when Pakistan managed to take just one run in eight overs, this duo had added 16 runs against Joe Root and Dom Bess in their first two overs.
Masood reaches century
Shan Masood brought up his ton as once again Pakistan regained its control in the game. This century is the fourth one in his 21 Test appearances and third in a row after his 135 score against the team of Sri Lanka and 100 runs against Bangladesh. He got full support from Shadab Khan, who scored 34 not out since lunch and NOW Pakistan 244/5.
Shadab Catch Out!!
Dom Bess broke the sixth-wicket partnership of 105 runs after a long time with the dismissal of Shadab Khan. Shadab played beautifully with Masood after the lunch break, but when he was looking to make his half-century, the ball went up in the air and Joe Root caught it. Shadab scored 45 runs from 76 balls and Pakistan at 281/6. Still, Masood 126 not out.
Two in two for Jofra Archer
Jofra Archer had next batsman Yasir Shah lbw out for just five runs, and with his next ball, Mohammad Abbas was caught by captain Joe Root. Archer took two wickets in two balls and Pakistan fell to 291/8.
Shaheen Shah Afridi managed to stay alive from the hat-trick ball.
Now Jofra Archer made three wickets to his name.
Masood brought up his maiden 150
In this innings, Shan Massod has been tremendous. Deservingly he reached his first 150 in Test cricket. The left-hand batsman of Pakistan has played in both gears and has shown his versatility in this match. Pakistan went to the tea break at 312/8.
An excellent Innings came to an end
After the tea break, the outstanding innings of Shan Masood came to an end on 156 runs when Stuart Broad trapped him. Shan Massod faced 318 balls and scored his career-best 156 runs with the help of 18 boundaries and two sixes. Pakistan scored 317 runs with the loss of 9 wickets.
Pakistan All Out!
The last batsman of Pakistan, Naseem Shah was out, caught by Jos Buttler off the bowling of Stuart Broad for not a single run. Team Pakistan all out for 326 runs.
England came to bat
Rory Burns and Dom Sibley came out to bat and Shaheen Afridi was all set for the attack.
Burns Out!!
With the fourth ball of the innings, Shaheen Shah Afridi was able to send back the England opener Rory Burns. England 4/1.
Dom Sibley Gone
Dom Sibley was trapped by Mohammad Abbas and it was an lbw. England made only 12 runs with the loss of 2 wickets. Now they lost both openers. What a start of team Pakistan.
Ben Stokes Out
Now it was time for Ben Stokes. Mohammad Abbas claimed his second wicket by picking the important wicket of Ben Stokes. Ben Stokes played 7 balls, but couldn’t make a single run and get dismissed. England was in great trouble at 12/3.
Captain Joe Root Gone
Yasir Shah dismissed Joe Root on the 20th over. England managed to score 62 runs with the loss of 4 wickets. Big blow for team England.
End of the 2nd Day
After the completion of 28th over, England was at 92/4, trailing Pakistan by 235 runs.
