England Captain Joe Root And Coach Approach Match Referee After Rohit Sharma Stumping Incident

The England cricket team was seemingly not happy with the TV umpire after two controversial decisions in the third Test match against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It has been reported that England captain Joe Root and coach Chris Silverwood approach match referee Javagal Srinath after the end of day’s play on Wednesday over the issue.

Indian opener Shubman Gill was caught off Stuart Broad in the slips by Ben Stokes, but the third umpire decided that the all-rounder had grassed the catch. In another incident, a quick stumping by Ben Foakes didn’t result in a wicket as Rohit Sharma had grounded his foot at the right time. The visitors claim that both the decisions were rather made quickly without taking the help of another camera angle.

England Batsman Zak Crawley Expressed Frustration After Several Umpiring Decisions

Crawley said that the English side needed that bit of luck as they are behind in the ongoing day-night Test. “Yes, it was very frustrating as we were behind in the game and we needed that 50-50 to go our way. And it when in their way today. It is frustrating as we desperately want to win and it doesn’t help in our chances of winning. Hopefully, we play better tomorrow and don`t require that 50-50,” Crawley said, during the virtual press conference after the opening day’s play.

Reports on ESPNCricInfo states that Root and Silverwood were unhappy with two decisions that were sent to the TV umpire and ended up going India’s way. They say that the decisions were made ‘unusually quickly’.

On Day 2 of the Third Test, India started well with the bat but Jack Leach and Joe Root have done all the damage with Joe Root picking his first Fifer. India managed to only score 145 runs but still managed to take 33 runs lead.

Currently, it’s Spin all over for India with Axar and Ashwin bagging all 7 wickets. England is currently 68-7 in the second innings. India now looks in a commanding position to win the match.

The last test match of the series will be decisive for India where if India manages to win or draw the match then they’ll be qualified for World Test Championship Finals. India shall be facing New Zealand in WTC Finals.
