Phil Salt made his start with a beautiful stroke to hit the boundary for 4, unfortunately, edged and got himself for Shaheen Shah Afridi. Pakistan’s dismissal was the only bright spot in the Three Lions chase. In the lineup, Dawid Malan and Jack Crawley, who was making his debut, showed no signs of anxiety.
The pair posted an unbroken 120-run partnership in 17.4 overs, ensuring England’s victory. Crawley’s stunning 58 off 50 balls, stole the spotlight as Malan remained still not on 58 off 69 with 8 fours. Pakistan’s bowlers gave it their best, but with little result.
You’re always ahead in any game where you get the opposition out so early: Ben Stokes
Stokes, leading the English side was pleased with the bowlers’ effort. “A very clinical performance. Any game where you get the opposition out so early, you’re always ahead of the game. You’re always striving for that massive team performance. I just told the boys to do what they’ve been doing all summer for their counties. Don’t change anything,” he said.
After a poor performance, Pakistan captain Babar is hoping for a better conclusion. “They picked up early wickets and that never allowed us to score big. Credit to England bowlers for taking wickets as that took the momentum away. Fakhar Zaman can open. Zaman did carry his form from PSL. We are looking forward to the next game,” Babar said.
