Dwayne Bravo, the West Indies all-rounder, announced on Friday that he would make a comeback to international cricket. Three years ago, he had quit playing for West Indies because of a bitter fallout with his country’s board. The right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast pace bowler played for the Caribbean team in all formats. He currently plays T20 cricket for Chennai Super Kings, Trinbago Knight Riders, Melbourne Renegades, and Quetta Gladiators, among others.
Bravo’s one-day International debut was against England in the tour of the Caribbean, the match in which he failed with the bat but took 2-31 with the ball.
Regarding his comeback, Bravo said he took this decision after a new team manager took over the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). The former team manager Ricky Skerritt replaced president Dave Cameron early this year.
“Today I confirm the announcement of my decision to return to international cricket to all my fans all around the world,” the veteran player said.
“It’s no secret that this big announcement has come as a result of the changes made at the administration level. For a while now I have been contemplating my return to international cricket and my decision was solidified by these positive changes,” he added.
Bravo fell out with Cameron after he accused the latter of spoiling careers. It happened after a West Indies team led by Bravo abandoned India ‘s 2014 tour midway in the midst of an ODI series because of disputes related to payments with the WICB. West Indies is right now playing in India a limited-overs series. The T20I series was won by India 2-1. The three-match ODI series will commence on Sunday.
“With the current leadership of coach Phil Simmons and captain Kieron Pollard I’m excited about this comeback and about the chance to be part of something really special,” Bravo said.
“With a powerful team such as ours, we can rebuild the WI T20I cricket team on and off the field and improve our rankings. I will remain fully committed to the WI T20 team once selected. Thank you to all my fans and supporters for your continuous support as always,” he added.
Even though he announced his retirement in 2018, Bravo stopped playing for Windies since September 2016. Bravo last played for his home team in a T20I against Pakistan in the UAE.
In November, Bravo dropped hints of playing international cricket again after lauding the West Indies team for clean sweeping Afghanistan 3-0 in an ODI series.
Bravo played 40 Tests, 164 ODIs and 66 T20Is for the West Indies. In all formats combined, Bravo scored 6310 runs and bagged 337 wickets.
Recently, he represented Maratha Arabians in the T10 League of Abu Dhabi.
