Dwayne Bravo Named For Ireland Series In T20I

Dwayne Bravo, the former all-rounder of West Indies, came out of international retirement in December and he has been named for the three-match series Ireland. In September of 2016, in the UAE, Bravo was named as a two-time winner of ICC World T20 XI.

“With the specific intention Dwayne Bravo was recalled and that was to bolstering our ‘death’ bowling as an area which was identified with a needful improvement. In the department, his record speaks for itself. To the other ‘death’ bowlers he will also be able to act as a mentor and wherever needed he lends his experience,” selector Roger Harper said.

Across all formats, the 36-year-old played 270 matches for West Indies. With an impressive record of 1,142 runs and 52 wickets, he has made 66 appearances in T20Is.

Windies have also recalled all-rounder Rovman Powell, apart from Bravo. “At the back-end of the innings Rovman Powell is a genuine all-rounder as we believe and up the strike rate he can add impetus,” said Harper.

Since his debut in November 2016, the 26-year-old Powell has played 34 ODIs and 23 T20Is.

Fabian Allen and Keemo Paul weren’t considered because of injuries. Keeping his workload in mind for the series, Jason Holder has been rested.

The first match of the series will be played on Wednesday, at the Grenada National Stadium.

West Indies squad: Kieron Pollard (captain), Dwayne Bravo, Sheldon Cottrell, Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Khary Pierre, Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Lendl Simmons, Hayden Walsh, Kesrick Williams
